Little Venice

One of the most well known and picturesque areas in Mykonos, Little Venice (also known as Alefkantra) is a seaside setting reminiscent of an Italian town with colourful houses standing literally on top of the waves! Built mainly by captains and wealthy merchants in the 18th century, Little Venice is one of the best places in Mykonos to enjoy the Aegean sunset.

The Windmills of Mykonos

One of the classic images of Mykonos, the island had more than 20 windmills in the 17th and 18th centuries which were important contributors to the local economy being used mainly for the grinding of wheat. Today, seven of these historic buildings are maintained in good condition in the neighbourhood of Niochori, just a short distance from Little Venice.

The Beaches of Mykonos

The islands of the Cyclades are well known for their amazing beaches and crystal clear waters, and Mykonos is no different! From the world famous Paradise Beach known for its all night parties to the more relaxed beaches of Ornos and Platys Gialos which are great for families or couples, Mykonos has a beach for everyone!

The Churches of Mykonos

Mykonos – like all Greek islands – is home to over 70 Christian Orthodox Churches built mainly during the Byzantine period by wealthy families on the island. You do not have to be religious to visit these beautiful buildings, they are open to anyone who wants to admire their architecture and history.

The Pelican(s) of Mykonos

We could not present the highlights of Mykonos without at least mentioning the Pelicans! “Peter the Pelican’ was an emblematic figure of Mykonos after being found by a fisherman in 1958 and nursed back to health. Nowadays Mykonos is home to three Pelicans who are all happy enough to pose for pictures!

Mykonos Town and Villages

The whitewashed houses and winding mazes of lanes leading through the villages is the quintessential image of the Cyclades. Mykonos is no exception and its lanes invite exploration!

Historical Delos

A UNESCO world heritage site, the island of Delos with its ancient ruins is a must see and just a short hop from Mykonos. Tours of Delos can be easily organised and if you are hiring your own private boat you may combine a visit to Delos with exploring other nearby islands!
